Hello my friends!!
As some of you know, I have taken a bit of a hiatus from my portrait photography business.
For the past 7 months I have been back in college, studying Social Media Marketing, preparing to make a career change!
It’s an extremely exciting, but very busy time!!
During this photography hiatus, I’ve really been missing my clients and shooting with my “Big Girl Camera”.
Don’t get me wrong, I am always trying to improve my skills, by practicing composition using just my iPhone (see those photos here: @heathers.iphotos ), but I will definitely NEED to get out and do some exploring & shooting with my “BGC” ASAP!
In the mean time, I’m going to be sifting through some of my old photos and sharing them here, so I hope you’ll check back often!
Since today IS #GivingTuesday (https://givingtuesday.ca) its a perfect day to give all of you some tips and tricks to improve your day to day photos of your kids and loved ones.
Tip Tuesday : Basic Portrait Composition (Part 1 of 3)
“Composition” is basically the placement or arrangement of visual elements in a work of art with the intent to create an interesting outcome.
Here are 3 SIMPLE tips to help you compose a more interesting and effective photo.
1. Rule of Thirds: Probably the very first composition rule that many photographers learn and master is the “Rule of Thirds”. It’s simple; add the grid on your phone or camera (More on that HERE), and place your focal point(s) in one (or more) of the dividing sectors.
2. Framing: Use surrounding elements to direct attention to your subject, by literally framing it.
3. Perspective: Change your perspective to create interest in your photos, be it portraits or just something as simple as leaf! Bend down, look up, stand on a chair etc.
If you have read and enjoyed these tips, please leave me some feedback either here or on my social media (this will help me know if I’m on the right track!).
OR If there are specific topics you want me to try to explain, let me know!
Thanks for reading and watch for the continuation next week!
XO Heather
P.S. Sharing is Caring- Don’t keep these tips all to yourself, help your friends improve their photos too!
